Beauties in Business Brunch Indianapolis, IN

Beauties in Business
Some of the Beauties in Business Brunch attendees!
Sunday I had the opportunity to speak at an event called "Beauties in Business Brunch" in Indianapolis, IN.  I was asked in May to be the inaugural speaker, and after my acceptance, I backed out.  I let fear grip me and thought I was inferior :-( And not worthy to speak at an event.  Then I was reminded that I'd one of my goals for 2014 was to speak at an event (I think this may have been on my 2013 goal list also).

So when June came around, I was asked again and I jumped at the chance.  I flew to my hometown for this event (and also to share some news with my loved ones...more on that later).  And when it was my turn at bat during the event I was shaking like a leaf!  My speech was about Fly's Nest, but more importantly, encouraging other women to start or expand their endeavors.  I managed to pull through!  With the support of the audience and my now muse, model Alex, my presentation ended with a standing ovation.  How cool is that!

All glory and honor to God for the opportunity and for Courtney and Mercedes for believing in me and my friends for supporting me :-)\

Here is some footage from the event!.

Sad With Social Media

I'm a thinker. An over thinker, if you will.  And lately my thoughts have been constant regarding the change that social media has imparted on the way we communicate with others.  Of late, I haven't been satisfied with the response, conversations, attention that my social media has yielded for me.  I'm sure it's partly (if not mostly) my responsibility revolving around the content I create for social media audiences.  Though; too, I think it's just the nature of the beast that is social media and how it has lessened the attention spans of the world.

That 70's Show

I saw the print of this skirt peeking out from the racks at a local Goodwill.  Picked it up and just knew I HAD to have it!  This is a quintessential 70's print, shape (triangle maxi) AND fabric (polyester).  It is very high-waisted on me, as it barely fits the narrowest part of my waist. I paired it with this thrifted ruffled peasant blouse and a thrifted wool fedora.  I added a chain necklace to accent the topper. Since I wear it as often as possible, I jazz it up with scarves, brooches and chains.

I thought huge hoop earrings layered chain necklaces and chunky platform booties were just the right accouterments for this ode to the 70's look. This look (minus shoes) cost me a total of $15!!!

Valentines Day Thrift Fit Inspiration!

Valentines Day Red Skirt
Thrifted full red skirt/taken in at waist to fit :-) Vine80 Hair Bow

Hey friends! Where do I start...This has been a rough week for me.  Many obstacles have reared their ugly heads.  Leading me to question my quest in life.  I'm considering a big move and deep in thought about other decisions.  Be that as it may, today, I threw caution to the wind and say to myself, "Ya know what! Dust yourself off and get to doing what you love!" which I took to mean play dress up in my thrifts lol.  And this was the result!

How To Style Vintage Sequins

Sequins can be overwhelming as they command so much attention.  Allow your sequin piece to shine by pairing it with a complementary yet understated accent piece.

Dottie is this scalloped sequin top that I purchased from the thrift store some time ago.  It's a Sz Medium and I just assumed I could not fit it.  Recently I tried it on and after some finagling, managed to zip it up lol.  I love the classic polka dots paired with the scalloped hem and sequins.

Fashion Reference | The Nanny | Fran Drescher

So, I was listening to my friendgirl's +Fab4lezz 's youtube channel and their voices remind me of this fashion reference...Fran Drescher on The Nanny 90's tv sitcom! OMG, I forgot how much I loved her style on the show. Her character is my spirit animal. Her distinct style and voice were so infectious! I found these pics on Google Images. Who are/were your TV fashion references?
